member of the military was shot dead in Towu village, Poso Pesisir Utara district, allegedly by a National Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officer who mistook the soldier for a member of the Eastern Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT) terrorist group.
Second Sgt. Muhammad Ilman of the 132/Tadulako Military Command was gunned down on Wednesday at about 12:30 p.m.
Operation Tinombala task force spokesperson Adj. Sr. Comr. Hari Suprapto was not ready to give an explanation, but 132/Tadulako Military Command chief Col. Saleh Mustafa confirmed the incident took place.
Saleh said his team was investigating the shooting. He called on military personnel not to get provoked by the death of their fellow soldier.
“We should let the team investigate the incident,” he said. The shooting took place when Muhammad Ilman and his team were patrolling around the Towu village in search of firearms belonging to the terrorist group. Suddenly, another team from the police mobile brigade appeared and fired shots.
