ith ten days left before the end of the tax amnesty’s second period, the tax office on Wednesday released a written reminder through e-mail and SMS blasting the 204,135 taxpayers who have not declared all of their assets to the state.
The Finance Ministry's Director General of Taxation, Ken Dwijugiasteadi, said the reminder mentioned the number of taxpayers’ undeclared assets.
The 204,135 taxpayers have 2,007,000 taxable items, including property, stocks, and bonds, but only reported 212,000 of them, Ken said.
"We sent off the e-mails and SMSs this morning, they are supposed to reach the taxpayers before [Wednesday] afternoon," Ken said on Wednesday.
Tax office spokesperson Hestu Yoga Saksama said that the data was obtained from various institutions, such as the National Land Agency (BPN) and the Law and Human Rights Ministry. If the taxpayers do not declare the assets before the tax amnesty wraps up on March 30, 2017, the tax office will collect the payable taxes on the items forcefully in April.
"So consider this a 'kindly reminder' from the tax office. After March, as many as 4,873 tax collectors will be ready to collect your outstanding tax payments," he said. (hwa)
