ndonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) is trying to lure young investors with stock trading games -- a card-based one called Stocklab and a smartphone app called 'Yuk Nabung Saham Go'.
Winratama Perkasa president director Ivo Rustandi, who created ‘Yuk Nabung Saham Go’, said the application simulated stock trading in a simple way for college students and people who had never traded before.
"We already have 10,000 downloads since the latest update on Jan. 4, and the user demographic is between 18 and 30 years of age. This is a simple game to attract young investors," Ivo said during the introduction of the stock trading games at the IDX building in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Around 300 college students from Jakarta attended the event.
Meanwhile, Stocklab creator Ryan Filbert said the game could be played by four to six people, with each getting a token that functioned as cash and could be spent on stock cards.
"The game introduces simple stock market terms, such as mutual fund and acquisition, to the player," Ryan said.
Although Stocklab is the first card-based stock trading simulation in Indonesia, a game of similar concept, called Pit, was already invented in the US all the way back in 1904.
IDX director Nicky Hogan said the bourse was aiming for youngsters to invest, because they tended to be more active in the market. (bbn)
