T

he Jakarta administration is facing problems in recording its huge number of assets, which are thought to be worth more than Rp 300 trillion (US$22.5 billion), the acting governor said on Thursday.

Acting Jakarta Governor Sumarsono said one of the hurdles was the technical process of transferring the data from manual documentation to the electronic asset (e-asset) system.

“Recording and validating the assets is the hardest part in the city budget process. Many of our assets have not been properly recorded for years,” he said at City Hall as quoted by kompas.com.

Sumarsono said the administration needed to complete its inventory and it could take years as the city’s had massive assets.

As of August 2016, the Jakarta Financial Management Body (BPAD) recorded that the city’s assets were worth around Rp 363 trillion.

The city administration started the inventory of its assets last year. Many of the assets have been occupied by private entities for years or have been claimed by others.

Separately, City Council speaker Prasetio Edi Marsudi said the council would form a special committee on asset data records as he had received many complaints about assets.

“Many conflicts occur in this matter. The city believes many of its assets are being claimed private individuals and vice versa. We need to resolve this completely,” he said.
