Yogyakarta will host the seventh edition of Catholic youth gathering Asian Youth Day from July 30 to Aug. 9.
Over 3,000 participants from 29 countries will attend the gathering, titled Joyful Asian Youth: Living the Gospel in Multicultural Asia.
Indonesia Bishops Conference chair Mgr. Ignatius Suharyo said Asian Youth Day had been held since 1999 to encourage young people to promote solidarity and build a deeper awareness of their responsibilities and contributions to society.
“Hopefully, all participants will be able to strengthen their understanding of the importance of harmony amid differences,” Suharyo said in a statement on Tuesday.
The event will be held in stages, including allowing participants to live in churches across Indonesia for several days and later gather to share their experiences.
As part of the pre-event campaign, the organizer will hold a run/walk sporting event on May 7 in Jakarta, which is expected to involve 5,000 participants.
Information and updates regarding the event can be accessed on asianyouthday.org. (dmr)
