tate-owned telecommunication giant PT Telkom Indonesia opened the Telkom Craft Indonesia exhibition on Friday to showcase small-medium enterprises (SMEs) that have digitalized their businesses with the firm’s assistance.

As many as 126 SMEs from various parts of the nation, mostly part of the 125,000 SMEs assisted by Telkom, are taking part in the three-day event that hopes to attract 9,000 visitors.

Under a partnership with the State Owned Enterprises (SOE) ministry’s ‘creative houses’ project (RKB), the event also aims to guide SMEs to traverse the digital landscape and open access to digital competence, online commerce and capital.

“Our SMEs still need assistance to comply with standard measures of product and quality development and to apply technology and management to benefit from the advantageous online market,” said SOE Minister Rini Soemarno during the opening of the exhibition at the Jakarta Convention Center on Friday.

Funding was also key in the development of SMEs, she added, noting that the facilitation of RKB for them would only be effective if SOEs, including Telkom, directly worked together with the businesses.

Since 2016, the ministry has opened 100 RKBs and will add another 514 this year.

Telkom Indonesia’s president director Alex J Sinaga expressed his hope that Telkom Craft would help shine a light on the SMEs, which have the most potential to advance the country’s digital economy. (lnd)
