ndonesia will send a high-ranking delegation, led by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, to a series of important meetings around the world this week, beginning with a state visit to the Philippines on April 28.
Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi will accompany the President to Manila in a reciprocal state visit to meet Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, ministry spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir said on Tuesday.
Jokowi will then take part in the 30th ASEAN Summit the following day in Manila, before traveling to Davao City with President Duterte on April 30 to witness the launch of the Davao-General Santos-Bitung sea linkage route.
Afterwards, Jokowi will embark to Hong Kong to meet with incumbent HK chief executive Leung Chun-ying and his future successor Carrie Lam, to talk about increasing the connectivity and protection of Indonesian migrant workers in autonomous territory of China.
On May 1, Jokowi is expected to meet with local business players.
"The foreign minister will then continue her trip to Geneva [in Switzerland] for the Universal Periodic Review at the United Nations," Arrmanatha said.
There, Indonesia will defend its human rights record in front of the UN Human Rights Council, the first international mechanism to address human rights concerns by periodically examining the performance of all 193 UN member states.
Retno, alongside Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna H. Laoly, will lead the defense.
From Geneva Retno will continue to Washington DC, where she will convene with other ASEAN foreign ministers for a United States-ASEAN meeting hosted by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
