Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has addressed college students on the urgency of being aware with how the government handles state money. The minister said this issue would affect their lives and the country’s welfare in the future.
inance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has addressed college students on the necessity of being aware about how the government handles state money. The minister said this issue would affect their lives and the country’s welfare in the future.
“You should care [about how the government spends public money] because when you reach my age, or even when you become a finance minister, you will see the results yourself,” she told hundreds of college students at an award ceremony for a student essay and photo competition on Wednesday.
More than 70 undergraduate students in their final year of study from colleges across the country joined the competition, titled “Public Financial Management as a Driver of Economic Growth”.
The competition was hosted by the World Bank in partnership with the University of Indonesia and the Finance Ministry.
The Public Financial Management Multi-Donor Trust Fund, a trust fund managed by the Finance Ministry and World Bank, along with support from the governments of Canada, the European Union and Switzerland, provided the prizes for the contest.
Adinda Rizky Herdianti from the University of Indonesia won first place, while Akhmad Faisal Lutfi and Erikson Wijaya from the University of Jember, East Java, and Jendral Soedirman University in Central Java, respectively, were the runners-up.
Meanwhile, Hendry Octafianto (The Institute for Information Management and Computers in Pontianak, East Kalimantan), Eben Ezer Nadeak (Malang State University, East Java) and Deslyane Rambu Leki (The Institute of Health Science Citra Husada Mandiri Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara) were awarded honorable mentions.
