olkar politician Fahd El Fouz, a suspect in a graft case related to the procurement of Qurans at the Religious Affairs Ministry in 2012, claimed that all 2009-2014 members of the House of Representatives' Commission VIII overseeing religious and social affairs were implicated in the investigation.

“I have disclosed all the information about the involvement of Commission VIII members and the amount [of money allegedly distributed to them] to investigators,” the Golkar Youth Generation (AMPG) chairman told reporters after being questioned by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in South Jakarta on Tuesday as reported by kompas.com.

However, Fahd refused to go into detail.

The KPK has named Fahd a suspect for his alleged role in the embezzlement of funds meant to procure Qurans at the Religious Affairs Ministry’s directorate general of Islamic mass organizations, as well as computer laboratories for senior Islamic high schools.

Fahd was the third suspect named in the case, after former Golkar politician Zulkarnaen Djabar and his son Dendy Prasetia.

Zulkarnaen has been convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison, with a fine of Rp 300 million (US$22,600), while his son received eight years in prison and a Rp 300 million fine.

KPK has launched a fresh investigation into the case, which was stalled in 2012, after investigators found new evidence suggesting that Fahd had accepted Rp 3.4 billion — from a total commission of Rp 14.8 billion — from the two projects. (ecn/bbs)
