ravelers heading to Central Java from Greater Jakarta may no longer need to spend excessive time on the road, as they will be able to use newly operational sections of the Trans-Java Toll Road connecting the capital to Brebes and Batang during the upcoming Idul Fitri exodus travel season.
Central Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Condro Kirono said the section of toll road connecting the Brebes tollgate and Gringsing in Batang regency would be operational during the exodus travel season, which is expected to commence 10 days before Idul Fitri.
All this time, travelers taking the toll road from Jakarta to Central Java have had to exit at the East Brebes tollgate – colloquially known as "Brexit" – which caused heavy traffic congestion during last year’s Idul Fitri exodus season.
“From the East Brebes tollgate to Pemalang, travelers can use two lanes, which will both operate only one way to serve vehicles coming from Jakarta and its surrounding areas and traveling to Central and East Java,” Condro said on Monday.
Meanwhile, only one lane of the toll road section connecting Pemalang and Gringsing will be operational during the exodus season. Drivers should travel at a maximum speed of 40 kilometers per hour along this section.
“The 7-meter wide Pemalang-to-Gringsing section of toll road is constructed of a lean concrete layer with a thickness of only around 10 centimeters. Only buses and small vehicles will be allowed to use [this section of] toll road,” said Condro.
It is still expected that the operational section of the Pemalang-Batang toll road will be effective in reducing congestion, because it allows exodus travelers to take the toll road all the way from Jakarta to Gringsing in Batang regency. (foy/ebf)
