V

ehicles have been trapped since Tuesday evening in a traffic jam on the road from Palu to Tolitoli, the capital of Tolitoli regency, after lanes were blocked by a landslide.

“Dozens of vehicles were trapped and we have begun to mobilize heavy equipment to remove the debris,” Tolitoli Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Muhammad Iqbal Alqudusy said as quoted by Antara on Wednesday.

The landslide was centered around Labonu waterfalls, Basidondo, Dondo sub-district. Vehicles could not pass the area.

Authorities of several villages are coordinating with the Tolitoli Public Works Agency to respond to the incident.

Meanwhile, the trans-Sulawesi road, which runs through the west coast of Central Sulawesi, was backed up from kilometer 8 to 14 in Galang sub-district due to 45-centimeters deep water inundated the lanes.

Floods, which hit the area from Tuesday afternoon to late in the evening, inundated several sub-districts in Tolitoli city, with water level ranging from 30 cm to 3 meters deep. (afr/dmr)
