resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has praised renewed progress on the long-stalled Bogor-Ciawi-Sukabumi (Bocimi) toll road project in West Java, which is inching closer to the target set by the government.

Progress on the 54-kilometer toll road had reached 36.52 percent of the 15.35-km Section I in June. The first toll road section is set to be completed by the end of the year.

“The progress is very good. From the total 54 kilometer of the Bocimi toll road, this first section of 15 kilometers does not seem to have met with any problems. The land procurement is settled, construction is running unhampered,” Jokowi said in an official statement on Wednesday.

The construction of the toll road was urgent to ease congestion in the Bogor area. “It is badly needed to ease the traffic congestion in Bogor, Ciawi and Sukabumi. [The traffic] has been very bad, I experienced it myself,” he said.

After the completion of the first section, the contractor is expected to proceed with the second section in 2018. The President has pledged to keep monitoring the project himself.

The government took over the toll road project in June 2016, after land acquisition issues had stalled its construction since 1997. (ags)
