Indonesia seeks more investment from Singapore Coordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasution (JP/Wienda Parwitasari)

The government is hoping to boost investment and trade ties with neighboring Singapore following a bilateral meeting on Friday.

Indonesia and Singapore frequently held bilateral meetings at all levels of government, Coordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasution said after the meeting at Hotel Borobudur in Central Jakarta on Friday.

The talks on Friday focused on six issues: the Batam-Bintan-Karimun Special Economic Zone, investment, transportation, tourism, manpower and agribusiness, Darmin added.

Darmin declined to disclose details on investment and trade deals, but the ministry’s official responsible for international economic cooperation, Rizal A. Lukman, said one of the deals involved state-owned electricity firm PLN and the construction of small-scale power plants in Sumatra.

He said another outcome of the meeting was that Singapore had agreed to increase its investment in the Kendal industrial park in Central Java. (bbn)
