etired police officer Suharyanto, 63, was shot when attempting to stop thieves from stealing his son’s motorbike at his house on Jl. Raya Pabuaran, Bojong Gede, Bogor regency, on July 19 and died 10 days later.
Suharyanto died after bullet fragments pierced his heart.
Suharyanto, who was an adjutant commissioner when he retired, was hospitalized for 10 days at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital in East Jakarta. He passed away on July 29.
According to preliminary findings in the investigation, the perpetrators were connected to ATM robbery gangs operating in the neighboring cities of Bogor and Depok.
“They [operate] in different groups. They are violent robbers,” Depok Police deputy chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Faizal Ramadhani said on Tuesday.
Five suspects have been arrested in the ATM robbery cases. They came from two different groups but knew each other, Faizal said.
One of the arrested suspects has reportedly told the police the identity of Suharyanto’s killer.
“We are working on the investigation,” Faizal said. (dra)
