A

car with 10 passengers was reportedly shot at by unknown assailants on Jl. Asia Afrika, Central Jakarta on Tuesday at around 2 a.m.

The assailants also hit the car with baseball bats, Tanah Abang Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Lukman Cahyono said on Tuesday.

Lukman said the incident began when the victims were hanging out at Plaza Barat in the Bung Karno Stadium complex. “It was around 2 a.m. They were hanging out, drinking and singing together. Apparently, the other group of men did not like it and then a quarrel occurred.”

The victims, he added, apologized to the men and left the area. However, they were pursued by two cars.

“One of the cars with the assailants bumped into the car with the victims. [The perpetrators] then fired a shot at the car’s trunk. From their information, three shots were fired,” Lukman said as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.

The car with the victims pulled over and then the perpetrators approached the victims, carrying baseball bats and hit the car’s windshield.

Two people inside the car, identified as NR, 35 and AT,35, sustained broken glass injuries and were also beaten with baseball bats.

“We have questioned the victims. We are still investigating the case,” Lukman said. (wnd)
