T

he government is still determining how to converge the two light rail transit (LRT) routes – the Jakarta LRT and the Greater Jakarta LRT – which will both terminate at Sudirman Station, which was originally named Dukuh Atas.

“We have yet to make a decision because there will be financial consequences,” said Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi in Jakarta on Tuesday, as reported by kompas.com.

Budi was referring to the two available options: a single-track or a double-track system.

Sudirman is also a junction station for the Greater Jakarta Commuter Line trains and the city-owned Transjakarta bus rapid transit (BRT) service.  The MRT project, which is still under construction, will also stop at the station.

Greater Jakarta Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ) head Bambang Prihartono said that the initial plan was for the LRT to use a single track at Sudirman Station.

“The master plan shows only a single track, because the existing space is enough only for a single track,” said Bambang, adding that recalculations would be made if it was changed to a double track.

The Greater Jakarta LRT will depart from Bogor, Bekasi, Cawang and Kuningan to terminate at Sudirman Station, while the Jakarta LRT will depart from Kelapa Gading, Rawamangun and Manggarai to also terminate at Sudirman Station. (bbn)
