ersonnel of the Jakarta Police’s traffic division have foiled an attempt to smuggle marijuana using a pick-up truck. The vehicle was stopped by the officers as it passed along Jl. Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta, on Monday evening.
“It was apprehended by our traffic officers. They suspected the vehicle so they stopped it. When they checked it, they found that the truck was carrying marijuana,” said Adj.Sr. Comr. Doni Alexander, an official with the Jakarta Police’s narcotics division, as quoted by kompas.com in Jakarta on Monday evening.
Doni said the marijuana packages were hidden under baskets of oranges. “The perpetrators put the packages under stacks of oranges to cover them up ,” he said.
Based on information, the black pick-up truck was carrying 24 baskets of oranges to cover the marijuana. The police found 119 packages of marijuana. The total weight of the packages is not yet known.
The police arrested the driver, identified as AS, for questioning. They have not yet discovered where the packages came from or where they were being delivered to.
The marijuana packages have been taken to the Jakarta Police’s narcotics unit for further investigation. (dis/ebf)
