Setya discharged, confirms hospital This picture of Party Golkar Chairman Setya Novanto in intensive care at a private East Jakarta hospital and circulated online, drew ridicule from critics who accused him of posing for the shot. Memes of the photo mocking the House Speaker were circulated on social media over the weekend, following Friday's South Jakarta District Court ruling that found in favor of Setya. (Twitter/Twitter)

A

spokesman for the East Jakarta hospital where Setya Novanto had been treated for the past three weeks has stated that the House of Representatives Speaker and Golkar Party chairman was discharged on Monday.

The public relations head for Jatinegara Premier Hospital, Sukendar, said that Setya was released from the facility on Monday night at 8 p.m.

"Yes, he was discharged with permission from his doctor," Sukendar said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.

He also said that Setya was accompanied by members of his family when he left the hospital.

A physician assigned by the House of Representatives to monitor the health of its lawmakers claimed that Setya was being treated for multiple illnesses, including heart and kidney problems as well as vertigo.

The general public, however, doubted that Setya actually suffered from health problems and that he had checked into the hospital only to dodge the probe launched by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for his suspected involvement in the electronic identity card (e-ID) graft case.

A photograph of Setya tethered to a respiratory aid and heart monitor that circulated online was widely ridiculed by critics, and satirical memes based on the photo made its rounds on social media over the weekend.
