Sumatra to get Rp20t for infrastructure projects next year

he government plans to carry out various infrastructure projects on Sumatra Island next year by allocating Rp 20.32 trillion (US$1.50 billion) in the 2018 state budget bill that need approval by the House of Representatives.
Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said the fund was part of Rp 106.90 trillion allocated to his ministry in next year's state budget.
Basuki said that infrastructure development on the island was still high between the eastern and the western part of the island.
The geographical conditions and the high vulnerability of the western part of the island are among the problems in trying to reduce the infrastructure disparity, Basuki added.
“But we have to take on the challenge. The construction of toll roads in eastern coastal areas of Sumatra should be followed by the development of connecting toll roads like the construction of Padang-Pekanbaru toll road and Bengkulu-Palembang toll road,” he added as reported by tribunnews.com.
He explained the road development would still get the largest allocation with Rp 8.86 trillion, followed by water and food sovereignty projects Rp 7.42 trillion, utility projects Rp 2.52 trillion and housing projects for low-cost households Rp 1.51 trillion. (bbn)
