ragen regency has closed down 60 karaoke parlors and dozens of illegal stalls reportedly being used for prostitution practices in Mount Kemukus in Sumberlawang, Sragen, Central Java on Monday.

Local resident Ariyadi said public order officials had distributed letters to the owners and neighborhood unit chief about the operation of the karaoke establishments. “They were gathered at the village hall and informed there would be a revitalization of Mt. Kemukus,” he said.

Sragen Tourism, Youth and Sports agency head Suwandi said the development would be based on the integrated master plan on the nearby Sangiran archeological tourist site.

The development of Kemukus as a religious tourism site would begin early next year, Sragen Regent Kusdinar Untung Yuni Sukowati said.

The administration would also provide training to accommodate sex workers operating in Mt. Kemukus. Based on the administration’s data, there are 158 sex workers across five neighborhood units in Pendem village who served in 69 karaoke parlors.

Many pilgrims visit Kemukus to pray at the Prince Samudro tomb. Mt. Kemukus has been infamous for decades among people seeking wealth through sex rituals.
