Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno reiterated his campaign promise to donate his salary as a government official to charity.
He said on Tuesday that he had asked the Jakarta Muslim Charitable Donations Board (Bazis) to manage his salary and channel it to the needy.
“I instructed Bazis to communicate with Pak Agus of the Jakarta Employment Agency to allow them to manage my salary,” Sandiaga said at the South Jakarta Mayor’s office on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
Sandiaga, a seasoned businessman, claimed that his decision to jump into politics was purely motivated by his desire to improve the city, and money was not what he was looking for from the job.
“For me all activities in office are part of [religious] worship. I am not looking to seek additional income from the job,” he said, adding that he already had enough savings to feed his family.
During the gubernatorial election campaign, Sandiaga had repeatedly told the public that when elected, he would channel all of his salary from the position to charity. (fac)
