At least three trains were stopped in their tracks after a container truck hit a rail bridge in Malang, East Java, on Monday.
The three trains were the Tawang Alun that served the Malang-Banyuwangi route, Panataran (Malang-Jakarta) and Malabar (Malang-Bandung).
The incident also affected trains arriving from Yogyakarta, Bandung and Jakarta.
Hundreds of passengers were reportedly stranded at a number of stations after authorities immediately closed the railway line.
The trip supervisor at Malang's Kota Baru train station, Ahmad Saiful, said affected passengers would get a full refund from railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI).
"The Malioboro train from Yogyakarta was stuck at the Kota Lama station," he added.
The railway line was reopened on Tuesday morning, but trains were advised to reduce speed at the crash site.
Abdul Rofik, 28, the truck's driver, said he was transporting paper rolls to Surabaya. "I am from Rembang [in Central Java] and this is my first time delivering in the Malang area."

The traffic accident unit head at the Malang City Police, First Insp. Boedi Junaedi, said the driver tried to escape congestion and used the left lane without knowing that the space between the road and the bridge on the lane is shorter. "The driver is currently being held [at the police station]." (bbs)
