looding in Jakarta over the week claimed the life of 4-year-old Raffa Fadhilla, whose body was found floating in  the Jembatan Merah sluice gate in Central Jakarta on Thursday after having gone missing for two days.

At around 2 p.m. on Tuesday when the city was hit by heavy rain, Raffa reportedly fell into the Ciliwung River in Bukit Duri, South Jakarta and was swept away by floodwaters. The boy had been playing with his friends.

Nine officials from the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency, with the help of two fire trucks and one inflatable boat, went to the site to find the victim, but to no avail.

The search continued for two days until the child’s dead body was found floating in the Jembatan Merah sluice gate at around 9 a.m. on Thursday.

Tebet Police chief Comr. Maulana Jali Karepesina confirmed in a written statement that the body had been identified. “The corpse was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital for an autopsy,” Maulana said as quoted by tempo.co. (vny)
