ational flag carrier Garuda Indonesia and its low-cost subsidiary Citilink have prepared 73,158 extra seats for domestic and international flights for those wanting to celebrate their year-end holidays away from home.

Garuda Indonesia president director Pahala N. Mansury said in Jakarta on Monday that the extra flights would be operated between Dec. 20 and Jan. 6, 2018.

He said Citilink had prepared 50,400 seats on 108 flights, while Garuda had prepared 22,758 seats on 108 flights.

“Garuda's seat availability has increased by 20 percent for this year's holiday season, compared to the figure in 2016,” Pahala said in a statement received by The Jakarta Post on Monday, adding that his company would continue to monitor demand to ensure that flights would be available.

He said the extra Garuda flights would be available for a number or routes including Jakarta-Denpasar, Jakarta-Medan, Surabaya-Denpasar, Medan-Gunung Sitoli and Jakarta–Osaka.

Large planes will be operated on six routes —Jakarta-Denpasar, Jakarta-Medan, Jakarta-Labuan Bajo, Jakarta-Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta-Hong Kong and Jakarta-Bangkok.

The large aircraft set to be operated during the holiday season are Boeing 777-300ER, Airbus A330-300 and Airbus A330-200. The planes will replace the regular Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft.

Meanwhile, Citilink will operate extra flights for the routes: Jakarta-Malang, Jakarta-Yogyakarta, Jakarta-Semarang, Jakarta-Solo, Jakarta-Denpasar and Surabaya-Denpasar. (bbn)
