tate-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) has prepared 1,219 extra flights at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in anticipation of a surge of passengers ahead of Christmas and New Year.
The flights have been prepared by various airlines to popular destinations such as Denpasar, Kualanamu, Surabaya, Yogyakarta and Solo.
AP II Branch Communication Manager, Dewandono Prasetyo Nugroho, said the airport anticipated a 5.8 percent increase in the number of passengers and a 3.5 percent increase in the number of flights compared to the previous year.
From Dec. 18 to Jan. 8, 2018 the airport expects to serve 4.2 million passengers.
“We will serve an average of 190,000 passengers at Soekarno-Hatta airport per day,” Dewandono said in a statement on Monday.
He added that the busiest day of the season would fall on Dec. 22 with 213,000 passengers expected to travel.
Dewandono said the airport's management and security would hold operations throughout the period to ensure safety at the airport.
