Inflation recorded at 0.73 percent in January: BI survey

he Month-to-month inflation rate until the fourth week of January stood at 0.73 percent, a survey by Bank Indonesia has found. The figure is slightly higher than 0.71 percent recorded in December.
The latest figure brought the year-on-year (yoy) inflation rate projection to 3.36 percent, said Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo in Jakarta recently.
The yoy inflation rate projection is still within the government’s target of between 2.5 and 4.5 percent this year.

Agus added that the BI survey identified several sources of inflation, such as rice, chicken meat and chili. He also applauded the government's recent move to import rice from Vietnam, India, Thailand and Pakistan to ensure the availability of rice in the country.
“We welcome the government’s decision to import rice to ensure there is an adequate supply. As Indonesia is an archipelagic country, we need to ensure the rice is distributed to all provinces,” he said.
He also acknowledged the efforts of inflation control teams in maintaining the low inflation rate.
The inflation rate last year was recorded at 3.61 percent, which was within government’s target of between 3 to 5 percent. Core inflation, meanwhile, stood at 2.95 percent. "The core inflation level was below 3 percent, which was a good achievement,” Agus said. (bbn)
