ademangan Police in North Jakarta shot dead a 23-year-old suspected of violent theft after he attempted to fight with police officers at Jangkrik Market in East Jakarta on Sunday.

The suspect, identified only as MR, and his accomplices had a reputation of cornering and threatening motorcyclists to steal their vehicles. The police arrested MR and his accomplices, TB and MT, in Matraman, East Jakarta, on Jan.14.

“From information from the suspects we were able to arrest perpetrators IPP or Bangor, AN and SH at Jangkrik Market,” said Pademangan Police chief Comr. Sri Suhartatik on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com

Then on Sunday night, the police went to the market with MR to look for the stolen motorcycles and those rode by MR and his accomplices.

At the market, MR allegedly fought with the police and ran into a house and took a knife, which he reportedly used to injure people and the police.

“The police fired warning shots, but he kept fighting so the police officers shot him and then took [him] to the police hospital, but [he] died en route,” Sri said.

From the market, the police seized evidence including a leasing contract, a machete, a knife and two vehicle registration certificates. (wnd/wit)
