hree firemen were reportedly killed and two others were severely injured when the fire truck they were riding flipped over on Tuesday in Poso, Central Sulawesi.
The accident occurred as the fire truck was heading to a fire in Madale subdistrict, North Poso.
The three firemen who were killed are Bahram Khan Samsuddin, Imran Jafar and Fadli Panai. The firemen who were injured are Amir Alamri, Ahmad Afandi Podungge and Alpian.
“The bodies of the dead victims have been taken to their homes, while the injured victims are being treated at Poso Regional General Hospital,” Poso Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Bogiek Sugiyarto told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.
He said the accident took place around 9 a.m. local time, when the fire truck was on its way to a scene of fire in the northern part of the city. On taking a curve in the road at a high speed, the fire truck encountered a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.
“The fire truck swerved to avoid the motorcycle, and the maneuver caused it to flip over,” Bogiek said.
Poso Regent Darmin Sigilipu visited the homes of the dead firemen to pay his respects. “They are heroes, because they died in the line of duty,” he said.
Darmin said the Poso administration would compensate the families of the dead victims, and pay for the medical treatment of the injured firemen. (kuk/ebf)
