A worker was robbed of Rp 200 million (US$14,000) while on the way to a bank in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, on Monday.

Duren Sawit Police criminal unit head Adj. Comr. Nevo Suharjendro said the robbery occurred on Jl. Raden Inten, East Jakarta, at about 10 a.m. The victim, Rury Hermawan, was on his way to the bank by motorcycle when four men riding two motorcycles intercepted him.

“One of the perpetrators pointed a sharp weapon at the victim and grabbed his backpack containing Rp 200 million,” Nevo said Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.

Rury chased after the perpetrators on his motorcycle and rammed into one of perpetrators’ motorcycles, causing the two riding it to fall off, Nevo said. However, another perpetrator pointed a gun at Rury and fled with two of his accomplices. One suspect was arrested.

Nevo said the robbers specialized in robbing bank customers and had conducted several criminal acts. The police are pursuing the three escaped suspects.  (wnd)
