resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will examine first National Police chief Gen.Tito Karnavian’s latest report on the police’s investigation into the acid attack on senior Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan before he sets up a fact finding team for the case, an aid has said.

“The President wants to hear the investigation's progress report, which will be conveyed by the National Police chief,” presidential spokesperson Johan Budi Saptopribowo said as quoted by kompas.com at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He said Jokowi would immediately summon Tito to ask what had been discovered in the investigation thus far.

“The President’s main concern is that the case must be resolved. Both perpetrators and the mastermind of the attack must be found,” said Johan.

He asserted Jokowi did not want to see terror or intimidation impeding anyone assigned to eradicate corruption.

When he was asked about when Jokowi would summon the Polri chief, Johan said he did not yet have any details on the matter.

Novel suffered severe wounds to his left eye after unidentified perpetrators threw acid at his face after he had performed predawn prayer at Al Ihsan Mosque on April 11, 2017.

Jokowi summoned Tito in July last year when public pressure mounted calling for the formation of a fact finding team for the attack case. Following their meeting, the Polri chief released a sketch of the alleged perpetrators. As of today, both Novel's attackers and the mastermind of the incident remain unknown. (ebf)
