eveloper PT Nusa Kirana held a groundbreaking ceremony for its zero down-payment housing project in Rorotan, North Jakarta after Governor Anies Baswedan denied the project belonged to the city administration.
Although the backdrop erected at the event read “Groundbreaking of Pesona Rorotan Zero Down-Payment Housing DKI Jakarta Program”, the company’s government relations officer, Dhiky Kurniawan, denied a blunder had been made.
“This [housing project] is, indeed, not related to the city administration’s program, this is genuinely private sector. [Governor Anies] would have come if officials were involved in the housing project,” he explained as quoted by kompas.com.
Meanwhile, North Jakarta Deputy Mayor Junaedi, who was spotted at the ceremony, refused to answer questions from reporters.
“No comment. I’m here as a guest,” he said.
The housing project’s groundbreaking, which was slated to be held on Wednesday morning, began at 3 p.m. At least 100 homes reportedly will be built on 1.3 hectares owned by Nusa Kirana.
Hundreds of Jakarta residents packed the area to gather information on the requirements to take part in the program.
However Anies said that the project did not belong to the city administration.
Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno said that the administration canceled the groundbreaking ceremony earlier on Wednesday because city officials were still deliberating the prices and payment scheme.
The city administration previously launched its first zero-down payment housing project in Pondok Kelapa, East Jakarta, on Jan 18, called Klapa Village. (vla)
