Indonesians remain optimistic despite concerns over recession

Domestic consumers were more concerned about a possible recession and less confident about job prospects in the fourth quarter of 2017, but their plans to spend more money in the next 12 months indicate that they were not worried about their financial capacity, a survey by data analysis firm Nielsen found.“Indonesian consumers believe that a crisis may happen in Indonesia, but they were not worried about their financial ability,” said Agus Nurudin, managing director of Nielsen Indonesia.Concerns over a possible crisis might continue in 2018, Nielsen revealed, due to currency fluctuations occurring since the beginning of this year.Despite under-control inflation in January and February, the rupiah stood at Rp 13,747 against the United States dollar on Thursday, far from the assumption of Rp 13,400 stated in the state budget.As a result, the central bank has used its foreign exchange ...
