Amrit, Viraj’s unbeaten 148-run partnership gives Senayan CC big win

This weekend in the Texmoda JCA League saw two closely fought games and a dominating win by Senayan CC, which helped keep it in the hunt for a Division 1 leadership position.

Senayan CC took on WPP India XI in a 35-overs encounter at the Karawaci cricket ground in Tangerang, Banten, on Sunday. WPP India XI was playing out its last game of the season with nothing but pride at stake, but it was a crucial game for Senayan CC as it need to win all its remaining games in order to stay in contention for the top spot.

WPP India XI chose to bat first and Dwarakanath Naidu curbed his attacking instincts to anchor one end. He didn’t get much support from the other end, except for some brief partnerships with Gaurav Pathak and Rahul Pagad. Expectedly, Chetan Suryawanshi was the pick of the Senayan bowlers and he was also backed up well by Raj and Ashit. WPP was eventually bowled out for 147 in the 31st over.

With an eye on the Net Run rate, Senayan sent out Amrit to open the batting with Viraj Bhammar. Amrit relished batting at Karawaci and he set out to destroy the bowling right from the first over itself. At the other end, Viraj, who has been battling poor form, was let off early. This lucky escape proved to be the stimulus needed for Viraj as he also opened up thereafter and took his side to a win in the 15th over itself without the loss of any wicket.

Yadavas Chairos Tigers won after fighting hard in a very close game to climb to the top of Division 2. The Tigers traveled to Purwakarta in West Java to take on Indorama CC in a 35-overs encounter and Anjar’s double strike in his second over had Indorama in early trouble.

Vinod Verghese and skipper Nitin Joshi staged a mini fightback, but yet another double-strike, this time by Frengky Shony, had Indorama in some bother at 60 for 5. A good rearguard fightback led by Abhishek Sharma and some wayward bowling by the Tigers helped Indorama finish at a fighting 143 runs in their 35 overs.

Abhishek Sharma returned to haunt the Tigers, this time, by taking early wickets. But good knocks by Ahmad Ramdoni and Yeri Rosogna helped the Tigers claw back to a position of strength at 91 for 4. However, Mukesh Tailor struck thrice to stitch an Indorama fightback, and with 20 to get with only 2 wickets in hand, things were looking very tight for the Tigers. Bernadus Bena hit a couple of big hits to eventually take the Tigers home.

Menara CC fought back well to beat Rawamangun CC in the final encounter of the weekend. RCC was in big trouble at 32 for 5 after Sajid Ali and Iruthayaraj ran amok early on. But amid the destruction that lay around him, Riski Sanjaya stood tall, anchoring an amazing fightback with the help of Agi Saptiazi and Juni Ariyadi as his 71 not out took RCC to a strong total of 179.

The Menara batting then decided to emulate the RCC early batting collapse as Juni Ariyadi and Agi Saptiazi combined well to have Menara tottering at 61 for 6. Faheem Butt played aggressively to take Menara to 109, but two more wickets fell and at 113 for 8, things were looking very grim indeed for Menara.

When all looked lost, Mutahir Akram and Sajid Ali decided to counter-attack. They flayed 67 runs of just 6 overs against a dumbstruck RCC attack to script what looked like an unlikely win for Menara.
