One of Indonesia’s karting prodigies, Sergio Noor, who rides with ShaDaff Motorsport, managed to secure the runner-up position at the latest Series 2 Asia Max Challenge (AMC) karting race held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia on Sunday.

It was an uphill battle for Sergio as he started in seventh position. But he then managed to secure third position in the pre-final, with the first and second spots secured by Ananthorn T and Thanakrit M of Thailand.

Thanakrit, the pre-final runner-up, then moved up to secure the pole position of the final session, with Sergio closely following in second and Malaysian Oscar Ng in third.

“I am grateful to be able to finish in the top three, despite starting the race from seventh,” he said in a statement sent to The Jakarta Post on Monday.

Sergio, still an elementary school student, has just moved up a class from the previous Mini Rok to Junior. He has also been chosen as one of the brand ambassadors for Indonesian telecommunications giant Telkomsel.

Commenting on this, Telkomsel executive director Ririek Adriansyah acknowledged he was upbeat to see Sergio’s achievement in his new class. He expected Sergio could secure more medals and stages in the future.
