fter leaving her house for less than 10 minutes on Friday to visit a nearby shop, Marlina came home to find that her 25-day-old boy had gone missing.

Aditya, who has a birthmark near his nose, was wrapped in a doll-patterned blue cloth. It is believed the boy was kidnapped.

Marlina, a resident of Sukmajaya, Depok, admitted that she had left her house without locking the front door, while Aditya and his 9-year-old sister were napping side by side. Marlina’s husband, Ranto, was at work when the incident occurred.

Sukmajaya Police crime unit chief First Insp. Suprihatin said Marlina’s neighbors had spotted a woman dressed in a dark hijab pass Marlina’s house while carrying a baby. The neighbors said the skinny woman had used her hijab to cover the baby.

“A witness told us that the woman had asked where she could get an ojek (motorcycle taxi). This witness was skeptical, because the woman had a mobile phone from which she could have ordered an online ojek,” Suprihatin explained.

Marlina, meanwhile, said she had not locked the door because she assumed it was safe to leave her children for a short while.

“When I came home, my daughter was still sleeping, but my son was nowhere to be found,” she reportedly told the police, crying.

Sukmajaya Police chief Comr. Bronet said they were investigating the case with help from the Depok Police’s Women and Child Protection unit. (vla)
