Rescue personnel recover body of man hanging from JORR lamppost

East Jakarta rescue agency personnel have recovered the body of a man from a lamppost on the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) in a suspected suicide.

he body of a man was found hanging on a lamppost on the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) near Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, around 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

Officers of the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency, who had received a report from local residents at 12:05 a.m. on the discovery, immediately departed to the scene and recovered the body.

East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency operations chief Gatot Sulaiman said a toll road lane heading to Pondok Indah was closed during the recovery, and two fire trucks were deployed.

He said he still did not know how the man could have come to be hanging from the lamppost on the toll road.

Separately, Pasar Rebo Police chief Comr. Joko Waluyo said the man had allegedly committed suicide.

“He hung himself with a rope. He allegedly hung himself, because we saw no visible signs of [physical] violence on his body,” Joko said as quoted by kompas.com.

The preliminary investigation has identified the man as a resident of Kedawung Limpung Batang, Central Java. His name has not been released at this time.

Joko said the body was taken to be examined at the National Police Hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta.

The police said they were investigating the case, and planned to question witnesses. (cal)
