ublic Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has promised motorists a 10 percent Idil Fitri discount on all toll roads across the country, including those in Greater Jakarta.
Basuki said in Jakarta over the weekend that the government had discussed the plan with the Indonesian Toll Road Authority (BUJT).
With regard to the length of the discount period, the government is still discussing with 10 toll road operators. The official holiday period is June 11-20.
“Each toll road operator has its own policy to extending the duration [of the discount]. For example, a certain toll road may start two days before the day of Idul Fitri and would end two days afterward,” he said, as quoted by kontan.co.id.
Meanwhile, Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) head Herry Trisaputra Zuna expressed hope that the discounts policy would ease traffic during the exodus season this year.
“I estimate that the traffic will be reduced this year due to longer holidays,” Herry said, adding that traffic was expected to peak on June 8, when the people headed to their hometowns, while the backflow peaks would occur on June 20 and 24.
Basuki said his ministry would collaborate with the National Police’s traffic corps to help smoothen road conditions during the holiday period. (srs/bbn)
