T

he Jakarta Police have predicted that the peak of the Idul Fitri holiday traffic, locally known as mudik, will start on June 8 and last for three days.

“We forecast [peak traffic] on June 8, 9 and 10,” Jakarta Police traffic director Sr. Comr. Yusuf said on Monday.

He said the police would deploy 1,273 officers from the Jakarta Police traffic unit to monitor the holiday traffic. The officers will be stationed at multiple spots inside the city as well as several spots on the outskirts.

“[We will deploy them at] Cikampek toll road, Jagorawi toll road and Banten [Merak toll road], as well as several departure spots in the city such as bus terminals, railway stations and airports,” Yusuf said as quoted by kompas.com.

He said the police would also set up several checkpoints to ensure motorcycles were not overloaded. The checkpoints would also serve as rest areas for travelers, he added.

He said the police would advise travelers to use buses or other public transportation if their motorcycles were overloaded for long journeys. (ami)
