tate-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) has begun designing Soekarno-Hatta International Airport's Terminal 4 in Tangerang, Banten.
AP II president director Muhammad Awaluddin said in Jakarta on Sunday that his company needed to invest Rp 11 trillion (US$777.15 million) to construct a 400,000-square-meter terminal.
“We refer to the construction of Terminal 3 of the airport, which started in 2012,” Awaluddin said as quoted by kontan.co.id, adding that the company spent Rp 7 trillion to develop Terminal 3.
The cost for Terminal 4, the construction of which was expected to begin in 2020, had increased to about Rp 11 trillion due to the price increase of construction material, Awaluddin said.
He said three designs – a conceptual design, a basic design and a detail engineering design – were being prepared ahead of the company's tender to appoint contractors to develop the terminal.
With the conceptual design, AP II will consider whether Terminal 4 will be designated for only low-cost-carriers or all carriers.
Meanwhile, in the basic design process, the company would determine the height of the planned buildings - one story or two - and distribute space based on necessities, Awaluddin said, adding that with the detail engineering design, the company would determine the total cost of the project.
Awaluddin said many companies had expressed interest in taking part in the construction of Terminal 4. “They have sent letters, but we have not made decisions yet because we are still focusing on the three designs,” he added. (bbn)
