large fire that engulfed a densely populated area in Tanah Tinggi subdistrict of Johar Baru district in Central Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon left five residents injured and at least 48 houses damaged, a local official said.
Tanah Tinggi subdistrict head Sutami reported that the fire had destroyed dozens of houses in three neighborhood units (RTs), namely RT 01, RT 02 and RT 03 of community unit (RW) 02.
“In total, there are 48 houses that burned down and five people injured because of the incident,” Sutami said, explaining that the five injured people consisted of three residents, one official from the Fire and Rescue Agency and another from the Public Facility Maintenance Agency (PPSU).
The subdistrict head added that the fire allegedly occurred due to an exploding stove from a resident’s house.
At least 18 fire trucks were deployed to the site to eliminate the fire, which started at around 1:20 p.m. The fire was completely extinguished at 4 p.m., as reported by tribunnews.com.
Some affected residents have been evacuated to nearby Jami Annur Mosque. (vny)
