fire broke out and burned a cable reel at an MRT construction site near Lebak Bulus Station in South Jakarta at 3 a.m. on Tuesday, two hours after workers completed their shift and left the site.

“We’re still investigating the cause of the fire. The construction [will] continue as normal,” the head of MRT Jakarta's corporate secretary division, Tubagus Hikmatullah, said in a statement.

“We refute that the fire was due to a power shortage, because there is no electricity running at the site. We’ll announce the findings of our investigation in 24 hours,” he added.

South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency head Irwan told tempo.co that it took his team about an hour to put out the fire.

“Two fire engines and 10 officers were deployed to fight the fire,” he said.
