n anticipation of an influx of Asian Games commuters, the Jakarta administration and city-owned bus operator Transjakarta will hand out 18,000 free all-day bus passes for the Games' volunteers, prepare 2,100 buses and provide all-day free bus rides on weekends and holidays throughout the duration of the Games.
“This is the Jakarta administration’s contribution in supporting the Asian Games through Transjakarta,” said Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan at City Hall on Monday.
Anies stated that busway rides would be free for all commuters on weekends and public holidays, namely Independence Day and Idul Adha, comprising eight days altogether.
Meanwhile, of the 18,000 bus passes, 5,000 will be distributed to reporters from selected media outlets and 13,000 to volunteers. The passes are now valid will remain so until Sept. 15.
The city has set aside 350 buses exclusively for athletes and 1,750 buses to serve the general public. The city is expected to accommodate up to 6,000 athletes. (nor)
