Jakarta governor inaugurates velodrome

Asian Games venue the Jakarta International Velodrome was inaugurated on Wednesday.
“I declare this velodrome cycling race track officially open,” said Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan during Wednesday’s inauguration, which was followed by a lap around the new track accompanied by the national cycling team.
The velodrome has a 250-meter-long circular track with a 40-degree incline, as per international standard, and can seat up to 1,000 people. The dome has notable ethnic Betawi ornamentation on the ceiling, a nod to the native inhabitants of Jakarta.
To ensure continual use, the velodrome is also fitted with a multipurpose court in the center. The court can be used for basketball, volleyball, futsal, badminton and even exhibitions. (nor)
