Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati says projected state revenue of Rp 1.79 quadrillion is realistic based on tax revenue growth.
inance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has acknowledged that the projected state revenue of Rp 1.79 quadrillion in the 2019 state budget is an ambitious target, but has argued that is realistic based on tax revenue growth.
“A 15.4 percent growth in state revenue is quite ambitious, but Taxation Director General Robert [Pakpahan] is expected to meet the target,” said Sri Mulyani in Jakarta on Wednesday, following the approval of the 2019 state budget by the House of Representatives.
She explained that the target was based on an assumption that taxpayer compliance would increase to 82.5 percent in 2019 from 74 percent in 2014.
She explained that her ministry would improve taxation services, including by simplifying registration, increasing tax payment outlets, expanding e-filing services and improving the payment mechanism.
Other measures include improving tax compliance through various approaches, including the implementation of the Automatic Exchange of Information (AEOI) -- which gives the tax office access to information on taxpayers’ overseas bank accounts -- and intensifying and strengthening supervision as a follow up to the tax amnesty, the minister explained.
Sri Mulyani said the tax office also expected to receive more revenue from micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through business development services as an effort to empowered MSMEs in cooperation with state-owned enterprises.
The ministry will also improve basic taxpayer data and supervision on the basis of taxpayer risk, she said. (bbn)
