span>Actor Daniel Mananta revealed that he gained weight and wore a bodysuit for his role as former Jakarta governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama in the newly released movie A Man Called Ahok.
“I gained weight so that my face looked chubby and I had a double chin, but the tummy part was quite challenging, so I wore a bodysuit,” he told kompas.com on Wednesday.
To ensure that he got into character, Daniel visited and consulted with Ahok who is currently serving his sentence at the National Police’s Mobile Brigade (Mako Brimob) detention center in Kelapa Dua, Depok, West Java, after being found guilty of blasphemy.
According to Daniel, Ahok laughed when he saw him wearing the bodysuit.
“He said, ‘Are you wearing a bodysuit? Are you trying to make fun of me, you look way too fat in it’,” Daniel recalled after his meeting with Ahok.
In the movie, Daniel acted alongside Denny Sumargo, Jill Gladys, Ferry Salim and Donny Damara.
