BPS launches integrated statistics data system Statistics Indonesia head Suhariyanto (JP/Rachmadea Aisyah)

tatistics Indonesia (BPS) has launched an integrated statistical data system (Simdasi) to support an initiative for a unified national database (SDI) aimed at synchronizing data collected by different government institutions.

“There is still some inconsistency of data issued by regional governments and the central government,” BPS head Suhariyanto said in Jakarta on Monday at an SDI coordination meeting to support the so-called Industry 4.0.

He explained that there were three classes of statistical data in Indonesia – basic statistics produced by BPS, sector-specific statistics issued by ministries and other government institutions and special statistical data issued by academics or members of the public.

Data from the three classes were often contradictory, he said, adding that that created difficulties for policymakers.

He said the SDI infrastructure was being prepared, while a presidential regulation would serve as the legal basis for the system.

Meanwhile, BPS methodology and statistics head Ari Nugraha, who is in charge of establishing the system, told The Jakarta Post that the Simdasi would incorporate two key processes – automated data collection and collective data review.

A computer network would automate the collection of raw data and detect mismatches, after which representatives of all institution involved would come together in a forum to review the data and fix mismatches before publication, Ari added.

“Of course, do not expect all mismatched information to be fixed once we launch the program. The system will have to be gradually improved.” he said. (nor/bbn)
