ili Trawangan, one of three islands in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), that is popular with tourists, is set to host the 2018 Gili Strong Triathlon on Dec. 22.
The sports tourism event will be organized by members of the Gili Trawangan Entrepreneurs Association (APGT), Gili Hotel Association and Gili Eco Trust. The event is part of the NTB Bangkit (NTB Rises) campaign that aims to help with the recovery of the tourism sector, which was hit by an earthquake and tsunami.
“The event is one of the efforts initiated by our fellow tourism entrepreneurs. We’re also working on increasing occupancy rates in Trawangan,” organizer Acok Zani Bassok, who is also the APGT chief, said on Thursday.
The triathlon will consist of a 7-kilometer run, 600-meter swim and 5-km cycle race.
“The participants will enjoy the view of Gili Trawangan while competing,” said Acok, adding that art and cultural perforances would also form part of the event.
