Strong winds destroyed a rooftop and toppled a number of trees in South and Central Jakarta at around 1:00 p.m. on Monday.

A twitter update from the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BDBP) at 1:58 p.m. uploaded a video of a panicked crowd running away from collapsing zinc roofs as the remaining lights and furniture trembled at a food court on Jl. Epicentrum Tengah in Karet Kuningan, South Jakarta.

The twitter report, via the account @BPDBJakarta, said there were no casualties in the incident.

The report also mentioned that the situation was currently “being addressed” as the damage to property was yet to be confirmed.

The strong winds also toppled many trees along Jl. Kh. Abdullah Syafei in Bukit Duri, Jl. Tebet Raya in Tebet Timur, and Jl. Cilandak Dalam in South Jakarta.

Also affected by the strong winds were trees on Jl. Diponegoro in Menteng, Central Jakarta, near the Russian Embassy.

The incident is now being handled by several units, including a unit each from the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency, Forestry Agency and Public Facility Maintenance Agency (PPSU) and Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) . (mai)
