On behalf of the Czech Republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Czech Ambassador to Indonesia Ivan Hotek on Wednesday night awarded silver commemorative plaques to Czech Honarary Consul in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Alwi Hamu and Supreme Audit Agency chief Moermahadi Soerja Djanegera.

“Our government recognized the contributions of both Alwi and Moermahadi to strengthen our relations with Indonesia and decided to honor them with silver commemorative plaques,” Ambassador Hotek told The Jakarta Post at the awarding ceremony at his residence in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Alwi is also an expert staff member at Vice President Jusuf Kalla’s office.

The Czech Republic and Indonesia have enjoyed cordial relations for more than seven decades.

According to Hotek, the bilateral relations have been progressing rapidly.

For example, based on data from Statistics Indonesia, bilateral trade jumped to US$265.68 million in 2017, a significant improvement from $251.35 million in 2016.

In order to make the awarding ceremony more colorful, the Czech Embassy decided to celebrate its annual Christmas Advent Party on the same day at Hotek’s official residence in Jakarta.

The Christmas party was attended by more than 100 guests, mostly embassy staff and their families, members of the Czech community living in Jakarta and friends of the Czech Republic in Indonesia. All these enjoyed traditional Czech cuisine, beers and wines.
