he government will set price floors for ride-hailing applications in a transportation ministerial regulation that will replace a regulation that had been annulled by the Supreme Court in response to a protest by ride-hailing drivers.
Transportation Ministry land transportation director general Budi Setiyadi said the new regulation was an improvement over the previous one.
“Hopefully, there will be no more resistance to the regulation because we have invited all stakeholders to work on the regulation,” Budi said on Sunday as quoted by kontan.co.id.
In an attempt to improve security, under the new regulation, ride-hailing drivers will also be required to submit information on vehicle registration documents and driver's licenses to the police.
The Association of Online Drivers (ADO) welcomed the new regulation but questioned the absence of a regulation from the Communications and Information Ministry for ride-hailing providers.
ADO chairman Christiansen FW said the Transportation Ministry's regulation, to be issued next week, had taken into account drivers’ interests.
The Supreme Court annulled in September Transportation Ministerial Regulation No. 108 after drivers protested it for setting low prices that they said were unfair to them. They also rejected the requirement of having to put stickers on the front windows of their cars. (bbn)
